Record Store Day 2022 Recap

Record Store Day 2022 Recap

Last weekend on Saturday, April 23rd we returned to The Groove in East Nashville for our 5th annual Record Store Day. For those who couldn’t make it or those who want to reflect with us, here is our recap of Record Store Day 2022.

Customers began lining up at The Groove bright and early on Saturday morning around 5:00 AM to get their hands on the newest vinyl releases. Record Store Day 2022 had officially begun. After 4 years of rain and 1 year of blistering heat, the weather could not have been better this year. The sun was shining, the drinks were flowing, and the music was playin’ all day long. Record Store Day never fails to be one of our favorite days of the year. It’s always heartwarming to see the community come together to celebrate the thing we all have in common: a love of music.

Tommy P kicked things off at 11:30 AM with a swirling blend of indie rock and pop. The stage setup was a dream thanks to the beautiful plants from Gardens of Babylon. The crowd started to trickle in from The Groove clutching their new records. Leah Blevins took the stage next for a solo set, playing some favorites from her latest record, First Time Feeling. A long-time friend of Acme Radio, having Leah on the lineup this year was surely a special moment for us. Her angelic voice and thoughtful lyrics never fail to impress.

Of course, we must take a minute to highlight all of the people who make our favorite event of the year a success. Record Store Day would not be possible without all of the support we receive from the community. Our vendors, Friendly Arctic, Sovereign Mama, LabCanna, set up shop while The Urban Juicer, Hi-Fi Cookies, The Mac Shack, and Bad Luck Burger Club provided nourishment to the attendees and staff all day long. Each of these local businesses contributes to making this such a fun, easygoing event. We are forever grateful for their continued support. And, we can confirm that Bad Luck’s got some of the best smash burgers in town.

This year was undoubtedly our most diverse Record Store Day lineup yet. This year’s roster held an array of artists and genres, showcasing the versatility of talent here in Nashville. Tim Gent and Reaux Marquez brought their own flavors of Hip-Hop, Amanda Broadway Band added some sweet-sounding soul, Sweettalker with a taste of indie rock, Justine Van de Blair with a sassy Drag number, and many more. We are so thankful and proud to have this group of artists in our Record Store Day memories.

After Justine Van de Blair’s three drag numbers with 3 full outfit changes, Chrome Pony took the stage around 6:00 PM. Their unique style of music blends rock, psychedelic pop, classic country, and vintage soul together for a familiar, yet wild sound. After a long day, Brassville closed things out with an hour-long jam sprinkled with humor and groovy vocals. Truly the perfect end to a perfect day.
